START YOUR CAREER IN HOSPITALITY

A video produced by filmmaker Nicholas Taghavi, Founder of Entervision Films

In November 2023, hospitality entrepreneurs and employment organisations came together to showcase why their industry could be a fantastic start to your career. Hosted by the incredible team at Lost in Brixton, young attendees were invited to discover live job opportunities, network with industry professionals, and learn new skills via interactive workshops. The menu of activities on the day included:

  • Learning mixology skills from Brand Ambassador Mikey Hirsh from Market Row Rum

  • A virtual reality experience with the First Step Trust

  • One to one advice and job applications with the Spiral team showcasing live hospitality vacancies across Brixton Village Market and London wide

  • How to develop your own food enterprise with Spiral Skills

  • Opportunities stalls and networking challenges with Catch 22, Eat Club and Lambeth Made

Following some delicious food provided by local street food vendor, Saba’s Ethiopian Kitchen, we enjoyed an insightful panel discussion and Q&A with our special guests:

  • Solomon Smith, Founder of Brixton Soup Kitchen

  • Etta Burrell, Founder of Etta’s Seafood kitchen

  • Jenny Haywood, Learning & Development Manager at Incipio

  • Lisa Lakatos, Manager of Lost in Brixton

Finally, the microphone was handed over to some incredible young artists referred to us by School Ground Sounds and The Young People’s Movement including:

  • Dia Day, Grit School

  • Aaliyah Jasz

  • Rippa

We would like to share our sincerest gratitude to all of the attendees, panelists and opportunity partners that made this event possible. All participants have been invited to ongoing support services to continue facilitating their progression into employment. This summer, keep your eyes peeled for our 5th edition of Opportunity Fest.

Events like these would not be possible without our kind sponsors, The Walcot Foundation, Lambeth Made and The Tom’s Trust.
